John Ahearn is a sculptor, painter and printmaker well known for his community-based murals and plaster casts. In 1979, his mural “The South Bronx Hall of Fame” gave Social Realism a new credibility by making painted plaster casts of real people in the South Bronx. As part of the inaugural NYC Frieze Art Fair, Ahearn showed about 25 of the original 40 plaster sculptures. He is represented by Alexander and Bonin Gallery, NYC, and his work is included in permanent museum collections in North America, Europe and Australia. “Automatic for the People”, curated by Jayson Keeling, soloed at Aljira in 2010
